COVID-19

At Dalgety Bay Care Home, the well-being and safety of our residents, their families, and our staff are of utmost importance, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain dedicated to adhering to the guidance and regulations set forth by the Government and relevant sector authorities. Our commitment is to keep everyone well-informed and updated at all times.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, we have made diligent efforts to establish strong policies and procedures that enhance confidence and reassurance among our residents and visitors to the home. We strive to create a secure environment where everyone feels protected and cared for.

Our COVID-19 Approach

In line with recent Scottish Government guidance effective from September 2022, care homes in Scotland no longer require face masks to be worn during visits due to high vaccination rates and other mitigations against COVID-19 in the social care sector and LFD testing is no longer necessary. Face masks will continue to be provided at the home should it be your preference to continue to wear one and staff will support the preferences of our residents who wish for our staff to wear face masks whilst providing them with care.

We would like to reassure you that we will continue to work closely with our Local Health Protection Teams and will follow their guidance should this decision change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Keeping Safe

At Dalgety Bay Care Home in Fife, we use a sufficient supply of PPE and hand hygiene products and ensure all of our staff follow the infection prevention and control measures we have put in place.

We recognise the significance of staying informed and adhering to official advice and guidance issued by the Government, the Department of Health, and the local NHS Trust. We will ensure that residents and staff stay updated on all available vaccinations and boosters for both COVID-19 and the flu. In the event of cases arising, we have implemented a robust system for recording cases and promptly implementing suitable measures to contain them effectively.

Staying Connected With Loved Ones

In light of the continual impact of COVID-19, we are committed to ensuring that our residents remain connected with their loved ones and the wider community. We support our residents in taking day trips and overnight stays outside of our care home. To facilitate this, each resident will undergo an individual risk assessment that includes respiratory screening questions upon their return. Testing and isolation measures are not mandatory for residents temporarily leaving the home, but we strongly encourage the upkeep of vaccinations to ensure everyone’s safety.

During challenging times when physical interaction may be limited, such as during an outbreak, we provide various online devices that enable our residents to engage in video calls with their friends and family, allowing them to stay connected always. We understand the significance of human connection and engagement in activities for our residents’ mental and physical well-being. Therefore, we go the extra mile to support residents in continuing to do the things they enjoy and keep in touch with those closest to them.

COVID-19 FAQs

Ensuring the safety of our residents, their families, and our staff is of utmost importance to us at Dalgety Bay Care Home. We are here to provide assistance and address any questions or concerns you may have. Below, you will find a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) relating to COVID-19:

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at Dalgety Bay Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time. We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
