A Wonderful Afternoon of Music and Memories
This month at Dalgety Bay Care Home, we had the pleasure of welcoming entertainer Luke Likesyd for an afternoon filled with music, dancing, and lots of smiles. Everyone came together to enjoy great company and the kind of tunes that brought back memories of dance halls, jukeboxes, and lively nights out.
Luke arrived dressed for the occasion in a smart striped shirt and flat cap, and from the moment he picked up the microphone, he had everyone’s attention. The music, mainly from the 1950s and 60s, had residents tapping their feet, clapping their hands, and singing along to the familiar hits they knew and loved. Some of the residents, along with staff, even got up to have a dance, adding to the fun atmosphere.
A Quiz and Chocolate Treats
One of the highlights of the afternoon was Luke’s brilliant “Yes or No” music quiz. You could hear the excitement in the room as residents eagerly raised red or green cards in answer to Luke’s questions, and the friendly competition had everyone laughing. It was wonderful to see people chatting and encouraging one another as they guessed the answers. Of course, no quiz is complete without prizes, and Luke made sure everyone felt like a winner by giving out sweetie prizes.
Cake, Fizz and Fun
To make the afternoon even more special, everyone was treated to cake and a glass of fizz. There was a real celebratory feel in the air, with residents raising their glasses to toast the moment. Luke didn’t just bring music – he brought humour too. At one point, he popped on a bright green leprechaun hat and tie, much to the delight of everyone watching. It was those little touches that made the day extra memorable and kept the laughter flowing.
The Magic of Music
Music has such a powerful effect, especially for older people. It can lift spirits, bring people together, and trigger memories that spark joy. For some of our residents, hearing these familiar songs transported them back to wonderful times in their lives. Music and social events like this don’t just provide entertainment – they offer a sense of connection and belonging, which is at the heart of what we aim to create here at Dalgety Bay Care Home.
We’d love to show you what makes life at Dalgety Bay Care Home so special. Book a visit today and experience the warmth of our community for yourself.
